Rising threats, man-made and natural, have propelled the need for installing CCTV camera systems. Be it at industries, 5-star hotels, large offices or public places, these silent watchers record every movement, making life difficult for criminals.

However, did you know there are different types of CCTV security camera systems available for different purposes? This article lists some of the most common CCTV camera systems in the market.

  1. Internet Protocol Cameras

Internet Protocol cameras, also known as IP cameras, are digital video cameras. They receive and transmit data over the Internet or network, and each IP camera is a standalone unit with a unique IP address.  These cameras connect to a network in the same manner as a laptop or printer.

These cameras capture images in the same manner as a digital camera and compress them to send over the network. They can be used either with a wired network connected through an ethernet cable through a router or broadband or wirelessly via a Wi-Fi router.

There are multiple advantages of using IP cameras. They can record images at a higher resolution, which means that the pictures captured won’t fade or blur when zoomed. Another significant advantage of this camera is that it can flag events as per specific parameters, including motion detection and tampering, among others.

Unlike an analog camera, where you have to play the entire footage to find out a specific moment, the case is different with IP cameras. Also, these cameras have a better field of view, which means it can cover a greater area with precision. They are also easy to maintain, and you can view the footage from anywhere.

  1. Panoramic Fisheye Cameras

A panoramic fisheye camera is a type of CCTV camera, which is fitted with a fisheye camera lens. This lens can cover very wide angles, up to 360 degrees. Today, these CCTV cameras come in various types, using a combination of multiple image sensors.

A 360-degree view covers the surround view, without any blind spots, which is ideal for surveillance that require a wide coverage in a single view.  This is not the only advantage of this CCTV camera. As it gives you a 360-degree view of the area covered, you don’t need to install multiple fixed-lens cameras, thus saving on costs.

In large scale industries, where there is an extensive need for a comprehensive surveillance system covering every angle, panoramic fisheye cameras can easily do the job. Also, the images captured are of high resolution, without any distortion. This ensures nothing slips your view.

  1. Network Video Recorder

A network video recorder, commonly known as NVR, is a specialised computerised system which allows you to record and access live views and recorded images simultaneously. It captures the images and videos in digital format and saves them to a mass storage device.

An NVR uses ethernet cable of CAT5e or CAT6 category to transmit data. This type of CCTV surveillance system is highly flexible as the cameras don’t have to be physically connected to the recorder. Instead, they need to be just on the same network.

As the images and audio received are in pure digital format, the quality is much superior to a DVR. Also, as a majority of NVR systems are wireless, they are pretty easy to install. Also, you can view the images and recordings from anywhere you want to.

  1. HD Analog CCTV Cameras

These are a special type of analog camera, which can record videos in high definition (HD). While earlier this facility was available only in IP cameras, an HD analog CCTV camera is ideal for surveillance requirements which need HD quality video but not other features of an IP camera system.

This camera is equipped with HD analog technology that allows you to record videos and images in megapixel resolution, with the help of analog components. These low-cost surveillance systems are easy to install and can be seamlessly integrated into an existing CCTV system.

An HD Analog CCTV camera is ideal for facial recognition, read license plates and identify objects, among others. HD resolution is essential for capturing neat and clear images of attacks, vandalism or any other objectionable behaviour.

In conclusion

CCTV camera systems play a crucial role in enhancing the security of business. You can choose the one that best fits your requirements. Note that their prices vary depending on their type and model and run from a few thousand to lakhs.
